Short Short Sem

Short sem really is short. Seems like it was just a while ago that i was preparing for last sem's exam, and now this sem's exam is already over, time really flies (cliche cliche...).

After the Iranian Rambo encounter, i have been 'camping' in the library to do last minute revision. There was too much distraction at home to stay focused and i admit i lack discipline in my studies, unlike someone (you know who you are.... hehe. And thanks for highlighting the 'important' points in my notes for me....).

See... all the important terms are highlighted, so colorful...

So now after 2 days of exam sitting for 2 subjects (told you this was a short sem), i can put throw away my lecture notes and start working towards my goal... cash up to get my own marker!! No no no, i take that back, i shouldn't throw away the notes since they're decorated so beautifully. Should keep them as souvenirs... LOL!

For those who still have yet to complete their exam, good luck to you and don't forget to put in your best effort!!

Iranian Rambo

"Charge!!............"

Got called over to the field cause a group was coming to play. Turns out they were tourists from the middle east, UK, and also locally.

There was one Iranian guy who was kinda like a Middle Eastern version of Rambo. After playing with his mates, he still wants more, so i ended up playing a few games with him. At first it was 2 on 3, shot an inexperienced female newbie on the arm, who afterwards get to my conscience by sitting there with a 'kelian' look with all her mates gathered around to see the 'battle wound' i put on her - a big red welt... Then 'Rambo' got so psyched up and wanted a one-on-one with us... hoho. I thought, "ok, why not..."

Off the break, he kept on charging non-stop!! Kept moving up the field, never stopping at any bunker for more than 4 secs. I wouldn't say he's agile, 'recklessly fast' is more like it... After each game he would go like, "Yeah!! Did you see that!! I went like 'tatatatatatatata'... OMG... Yeah!!..." and throwing high-fives around.

This will probably be the last of paintball until exam's over. Exam is only 3 days away... got to study study study...

P.S. - Never go into the snake on a one-on-one.

First Looks - Empire 09 Eventz

Like every paintball company out there, Empire Paintball is also releasing new products for 2009. This is their new mask for the new season, the 09 Eventz.

IMHO, the previous version still looks better, especially around the vents area, sleeker and uncluttered. The 09 version is designed with more venting probably due to complains of breathing difficulty and bad sound projection.

Maybe can get one and spray it to last year's color scheme, hmm...

First Looks - Dye C9

Saw these Dye C9 stuff on a paintball forum. Looks way better than previous year's if you ask me. Back players will definitely like the harness, 11 pods!! No probs in out-shooting a completely filled 68/4500 tank...

For the first time ever in the Paintball Asia League (PAL) series, an event DVD is going to be released. Below is quoted from the WCA thread on the Penang Paintball Sports forum.

Hi Everyone,

We will attempt to make a DVD that can potentially be of the quality of that from Europe and the USA. The DVD will be about 2-3 hour long.

Footages from the DVD will be used for local news/programs, You tube, ESPN Asia, and maybe even EuroSport.

Do you want it for yourself and for our sport?? Do show your support. We expect delivery of the DVD within 1.5 months after the event as we will need to work on the editing.

THE PRICE FOR THE WCA 2008 DVD IS RM 35 (USD 10) EACH. FOR TEAM PACKAGE : 7 x RM30(USD 8.60) = RM 210(USD 60)

Preorder your Cyborg RX

"Macdev all the way!!"

Macdev Australia has once again showed us their great engineering wizardry with the release of the new Cyborg RX paintball marker.

Hailed as the greatest Cyborg ever made, it comes with all the high-end features that you would expect, plus some extras. It has OLED display - as you would find on the Ego, enclosed bolt - as you would find on the Bob Long poppet valve guns, self-cleaning eyes - as you would find on the DM9. The marker is also light, weighing in at only 960g (2.12 lbs), only slightly heavier than the Ego9 (1.99lbs). With this little weight difference, no one will even notice when playing.

Apparently Macdev is not satisfied with all those great features, they decided to include some innovative extras, such as the USB upgradable board and the easy-to-remove valve. The valve of the Cyborg RX is connected to the rammer. It can be removed without tools from the back of the gun together with the rammer for easy cleaning. The marker also comes with Macdev's new barrel system, the Shift barrel.

I personally like the smooth no-nonsense milling and the covered bolt. Previously i was a little reluctant to use poppet valves, fearing that dirt might easily get into the bolt. With the new Cybrog RX, i'm definitely thinking of getting a poppet valve.

I think what Macdev is doing is great. Unlike other companies that are releasing new 'upgraded' markers every year, claiming that theirs is the greatest marker money can buy, Macdev hasn't release any new marker for the year 2008. Instead, they spent 2 years in R&D to come out with the Cyborg RX, making sure that the 'upgraded' marker really IS upgraded. This is the reason why they don't name it Cyborg 09.

The Cyborg RX will be available for shipping in the last week of November 2008. At that time, the marker will retail for $US1299. However, those who preorder with full payment now online at the official Cyborg RX minisite will be given a special price of $US1250, inclusive of delivery.

Ollie Lang Finishing Move

Saw this vid on youtube. Quite an old vid (dated back to 2006), but still a great vid showing Ollie Lang's greatness...

First Looks - Dye Rotor

This is getting exciting, with so many new products coming out on World Cup. The latest news is Dye's very own hopper - The Dye Rotor.

The company has always come out with products of unique designs, the same goes to their loader. With a feed rate of 50+ bps, no gun can outrun this baby! From the promotional poster, it says that 15 seconds is all it takes to break down the parts and clean it, tool-less. Now how much more convenient can it be...

With the release of the hopper, i believe Dye is the only brand that carries the whole range of equipments in paintball. From markers to tanks, from masks to harnesses, you name it and Dye has it.

A quick update on the Dye i4 - the promotional poster. Seems like the i4 comes stock with thermal lens, nice...

19th Oct

Realized i forgot to bring my cleats after arriving at the field, had to drive all the way back home to get it.

Didn't play much today, two My-NPL bound teams were trying out the My-NPL field2 setup. I only get to do some drills i made up my own, using cones after everyone left.

It goes like this...

"GAME ON!! and there goes the one-man blue team, running to the snake off the break, and he dives!! Playing tight on that snake tombstone... What a great shot! the guy in the dorito is out. Ohh.... there goes another one in the middle spike. What's he going to do next... a perfect slide into the second snake! That guy in the other dorito better watch out... oohh, and he's out, together with his teammate in the bumper.

Blue team makes his way up the snake... still going... still going... aaaand, he pops up, taking out the guy filling in the dorito. And now it's a one-on-one with the corner baby spike. Snap once, snap twice... and blue team is the champ!! What an exciting game..."

Actually is wasn't this perfect, did some silly dives. But hey, it doesn't hurt to visualize it that way... lol

Notes to self:
  • Learn how to play tight and snap shoot in every single bunker, still sloppy in playing low bunkers.

18th Oct

"Barrel Sock ON!!"

That was what i was shouting most of the day... This was my first day looking after the field, first to arrive and last to leave.

Two batches came to play today. The first was in the morning, a gang of youngsters, most of them playing for the first time. The second batch was in the evening, a group of adults playing for fun. Those guys in the second batch were using their own high-end e-markers, and they aren't even playing for tournaments! There was one limited edition PM8 Mimosa, one limited edition carbon-finish Etek2, one PM6, and another i don't recognize the model. Cannot TAHAN!!!

PM8 Mimosa. Nice...

Not much training today. Played a few games with the regulars. One of the game was actually not bad, now i know the benefits of playing crossovers, shot out one guy without him even spotting me, woohoo!! (but then i did a wrong move after that and got shot until my left arm became numbed)

Other than that was mostly running around ref-fing games. Oh, and one more thing... i superman-dived with gun i hand for the first time! And it worked out well! :0

Haven't eaten anything but a few buns the whole day, was seriously hungry. Got back home at 8 and guess what... mom made something out of the ordinary for dinner!! :)

Notes to self:
  • Do not have doubts when sliding or diving, JUST DO IT!!
  • Gun should be up as soon as possible after doing a slide or dive.
  • Tuck in arm when snap shooting.
  • Do not over-inflate the bunkers.

Doesn't look very nice if you ask me. Hopefully they'll come out with new and better looking color schemes...

11th Oct

It's been 3 weeks since i last played, occupied with work and the raya holidays. Glad to be out of paintball hiatus.

This time the field size has been reduced 50%. Half of the previous field is now unoccupied. Since the field layout has been the same for the past month, any change is good. This fresh change is meant to train speed and agility. Off the break, the other team was so near, you can almost see where their eyes were looking through their masks!!

Arrived a little late, so didn't get to walk the field. Right of the first game, ran straight up to the left temple and shot a guy in the middle car wash (kind of a first for me... this was my first time of actually shooting someone in a match! shh...). I may not be the best among them, but i'm surely improving... Ok, enough with the joy, after that i lost every single game. Got shot directly in the mask countless times, until i got paint in my mouth. Paintballs taste terrible!!

Training was really short today. Arrived at 11.30am, finished at about 3pm, never get to do any specific drills.

Notes to self:
  • Improve your aiming!! Luan luan shoot won't get you anywhere (remember remember!!)
  • Always be thinking of the next move, anticipate opponent's move.
  • Don't just run to bunker off the break, look across to see where the other team is going.
  • Again... communicate! Listen and report!

Planet Eclipse's 09 goodies

It's that time of the year again, when paintballers get to ogle at all those wonderful toys set for next year.

Considered an already amazing super gun, the Eclipse Ego has been further improved for the 2009 version. Set to make it's debut in the PSP World Cup in October, it's what every ego-maniac has been waiting for.

The Ego9 is slightly slimmer then previous versions, but the most impressive of all is perhaps the cycle time. The Ego8 has been known to shoot over 40 balls per second. But now with the new, phenomenal solenoid valve installed, the cycle time has been reduced by 8ms!! The new Ego should be able to shoot 50+ balls per second without breaking a sweat. If only there's a hopper that can keep up to it...

Also new for 2009, and the first spool valve gun by Planet Eclipse, the Eclipse Geo. For a gun that has been in the making since way back in 2004, the Geo definitely has a lot to live up to. Probably lighter than all other high-end spool valves, the Geo weight in at a mere 890 grams (1.96 lbs), batteries and barrel attached. A stand-out feature of the gun is the super easy maintenance. With a fast bolt dis-assembly time of approximately 6 seconds, the Geo really is one of a kind. Just slide out the bolt through the back cap, lube the o-rings, and it's done, no tools required. From the manual, it seems that the Geo has 3 o-rings on the bolt, 3 o-rings on the bolt can, and 2 o-rings on the prop shaft. These 8 o-rings are all there is to lube up.

Both guns are priced at US$1250, still cheaper than the new Dye Matrix 9. Time to start saving up some dough...

Check out the Ego9/Geo mini site here.
The Geo user's manual is available here.

Pierced eye glasses

"Paying ... to have someone cut your eyes and shoot a laser in them (just so you don't have to wear glasses) seems extreme to me..."
-- James Sooy --
Came across this piece of article from Body Modification Ezine (BME), a website on body piercing. They actually came up with an eye glasses that hangs from piercings on the bridge of the nose!

Don't they feel the pain? Having a piece of metal punched through the bone on their nose... I guess they're used to it.

Bizarre... but at least they'll never lose their eye glasses again...

Fullest day of my life.

"Ahh.... Full... Feels sick..."

Those are the words that was on my mind the whole night, well at least when i was awake. Last night, we (kok, mo, me) went to Seoul Garden Auto-City and stuffed ourselves as much as we possibly can. The initial plan was to have a simple dinner and then go '1942', but then something came up with kok and he changed the plans. Haiz...

Last night can't really sleep, woke up at 4am and still have the feeling like i've just eaten something!! Then the next day no mood to eat anymore.... sick. I've never over eat until this magnitude...

Selamat Hari Raya!!

It's the end of the fasting month,
and the start of Hari Raya celebrations!!

Some of us might balik kampung,
some might stay at home;
some might laze around all day,
some might work part time for the double pay.

But whatever your plans might be for this holiday,
be sure to have a happy happy Hari Raya!!
