FYP done!!

Finally, my final year project is done!! :)

Degree life is almost ending, all that are left are two more assignments and two exam papers. Half a month more and college's over!!

We have to pass up 3 hard-cover copies of the same report!

BTW, what do you guys think of an E&E engineering degree student studying for a computing related master's degree? I'm thinking it'll be good to gain another set of skills other than what i studied for my degree. But people say getting a master's degree is about specialization. In other words, it's suppose to go 'deeper' into a specialized field, rather than going 'wider' and learn more of other stuff.

So what is your opinion? Would it be a good thing to do? Or would it be just a waste of time...

Long time no write

Hi everyone, it's been quite some time since the last time I posted anything here. It's been so long I think some followers had already removed my blog from their to-follow list.

Back at the end of April, I dislocated my elbow while playing paintball. My elbow was wrapped in POP for one month. Since then I haven't been doing much on this blog. I haven't been playing any paintball also, and will not be returning to the field for quite some time. My elbow is a lot better now, but still unable to lift heavy stuff.

The good news is, I'm going to finish college in 2 months!! :)
My final year project is almost done. It's not the best project, but still, it's almost done!! One less thing to worry about soon...

Field Closed for Thaipusam

The Pulau Tikus area is always jammed and crowded during the Thaipusam festival, especially along the stretch of road leading to the Municipal Park.

IA wants to use the padang as car park for the festival, hence the field will be closed this weekend. Woohoo!! No work this weekend!!

The guy in-charged of the car park requested to use the paintball field for parking too. With everyone busy and getting ready for My-NPL this weekend, I had to go to the field alone early this morning to move the bunkers and open up the netting to let cars in. Then I had rush back to make it in time for my 12 o'clock class. Tiring...


I will not be going to any paintball tournaments this year due to my studies and financial status. All the best to my paintmates who'll be competing in My-NPL. Go Penang!!

New Year New Sponsors

From what I've read from the internet these few weeks, I've come to realize that the infrastructure of any paintball team is never permanent.

From 2009 to 2010, several pro teams are seeing changes in their team's infrastructure.

LA Infamous and SD Aftermath have combined to become one team, known as LA Infamous. In 2009 Aftermath was sponsored by Luxe for their markers, and Infamous by Planet Eclipse. After the merger they'll be using Bob Longs. (FYI, Infamous originally shot Timmys before being sponsored by Planet Eclipse.) Can't wait to see the Infamous Victory...

Last year's PSP champ, the Russian Legion, have changed sponsors for the new season too. They're no longer with Bob Long, and will be using MacDev markers this season.

Dynasty also have changed their marker sponsorship. They a Smart Parts sponsored team for a long time, but since Smart Parts are now having trouble holding their own, they've switched over to Planet Eclipse. Get ready to see Dynasty private label Egos and Geos soon...

Dynasty is now E-mortal!!

The two new pro teams moving up from semi-pro - Vicious and World Famous Entourage (formerly known as Dynasty Entourage) - will also see some changes in sponsorship. Vicious will now have a 'proper' jersey by Empire, and Entourage will be shooting private label Marq Victories.

XSV will also be changing gun sponsors for 2010. They have been using Egos since 2005, when the first ever Ego came out. After being with PE for so long, they've finally switched. They will be shooting the new 2010 Alien Independence for next season. Rich Telford and Junior Brown tested the markers before closing the deal, and it seems that they were very happy with how it performed.

Last but not least, a new team will be shooting Azodin markers!! Yes you read that right, Azodin!! I'm not giving out any details just yet, you all will have to wait to find out... :)

FYP, haiz....

Every final year student has to do a final year project. It is suppose to be a fun thing, at least that was what i thought. Who knows the project could cost so much...

A typical hardware-based project could easily cost up to the hundreds. Some suggest that a software based project might be cheaper as we do not need to purchase any expensive parts. The problem is, I'm not very good in programming.

A few classmates of mine found a personal tutor that would help us with the programming, but with a fee involved, which will then make it as expensive as a hardware-based project.

Haiz... I've already stopped all paintball tournaments this year, yet I'm still so in need of cash....

What to do, they say money makes the world go round.

If the notes do not want to be my friend, then I guess I'll have to work super hard to brush up my programming skills on my own...

Back To College Soon

Hohoho... 4 months have finally passed, my internship is finally over!!

Bye bye boring cubicle...

No more waking up at 6:45am every morning...
No more getting stuck in the traffic jam everyday before and after work...
No more sitting in the cubicle looking at the same wallpaper everyday...
No more eating the same dishes in the cafeteria everyday...
No more going to bed early...
And last but not least, no more being restricted to going out only on weekends!!

The new semester is starting next week. This will be my third and final year, and probably the busiest one.

Time to start getting into the mood for academic life!!

Tiring Job...

Maintaining a paintball field is no easy task, especially when rain and wind keep visiting...

Year end is the raining season, the wind will be strong and rain will be frequent. The week after WCA, 3 of the poles holding up the net got blown down. The poles were nailed to the ground by iron rods of about 2 feet long, yet the wind was strong enough to pull all the rods out of the ground! Imagine how strong the wind was. Putting the heavy pole back up was not easy, and after that we had to climb up all the way to the top of the pole to fix the net.

And because of the rain, the grass grew like there was no tomorrow. Running around in the waist-high grass was almost impossible. If you were to lie down in the open, the grass would still hide you from the enemy. Not bad huh, the first 7-man speedball field with elements of woodsball... lol


Cutting the grass was super tiring, took us 2 weekends to finish the job. You know those grass cutters that are carried like a backpack, the ones you see MPPP guys use so effortlessly? They are actually quite heavy, and you have to swing them back and forth, my muscles ached as if i just went to the gym. Look at the before-after pics below.

Remember the bulu ayam served to us (see previous post here)? I thought that was as worse as it can get. But I was wrong.

Yesterday we were having breakfast in the cafeteria as usual, Maggie goreng. Suddenly my colleague shouted out "I got extra ingredients in my rice!!"


They fried the snail together with the Maggie!! And the most disgusting part was when we cracked open the shell, the snail's meat was still in there!! Eeww... My appetite suddenly went to zero, yet I had to finish my food, or else... motanai!!

The good part is, there's only one week left before internship ends :)

WCA 2009 - Rants

World Cup Asia, supposedly the LARGEST and most anticipated paintball event in Asia, has ended. Does it live up to all the hype and expectations? YES and NO.

First the NO part - Expensive paint, terrible field condition, and a venue which could be better improved.

Firstly, the paint costs us RM235 a box. Why so expensive?!?! In the MY-NPL, the price is below RM200 per box. Even the ISSC, also an international event, sells paint at only RM190 per box. In the Xtion forum, the organisers posted that WCA is an international event, hence they have to charge more. WTF!!

The second thing is the super muddy field. It was so muddy that Kok said as if he was "swimming" when playing the snake.


Seriously, as Asia's LARGEST paintball event, the field could have been in a better shape. They could have picked another venue, it's not like they didn't know that the Xtion field will be super muddy during this time of the year. Next year's MPOC will have all legs played in Xtion. I won't be going to any of the events after seeing how bad it was at the WCA.


Another turn-off about the venue is the security. People could go in and out of the players paddock at anytime of the day, players or non-players. They do have the whole area surrounded by netting and ID tags need to be shown at the entrance to gain entry. But the netting was not properly put up. Anyone could just lift the net and walk straight through, in which case the guards at the entrance are just for show. Come on, they could at least tie the nets to the ground. And speaking of ID tags, they didn't come lanyards. This might not be a big issue, but HELLO... this is LARGEST paintball event in Asia!

One last thing, the refs. They are really hardworking and friendly people, but they could made a more noticeable call. There was one game where I was hit and didn't notice, which was a norm in tournaments. It was on my knee pad off the break, not a very obvious hit. One of the ref saw the hit and called me out with a voice so soft no one can barely hear him amidst all the firing. He called again and again and again, still too soft for anyone to notice. Then after quite a while, he finally he ran over and pulled me out, 1 for 1 for playing on. His call was by all means a fair one, I did played on after getting shot, albeit a not so obvious hit. But if he could have ran over and pulled me out straight instead of standing at the sidelines calling. I got hit on the break, and managed to get all the way to the 50 before he pulled me out! Imagine that! If he really did called loud enough, I wouldn't have gone so far down the field without hearing him. Other than this particular case, the refs at WCA are great and did their jobs well.


Whew... that was quite a lot of complaints. Normally I would just shrug off any dissatisfaction, but since this is the LARGEST paintball event in Asia (again), I guess it's ok to complain about even the teeniest issue. After all, we did pay quite a large sum for the registration fee...

I haven't updated my blog for a long long time, didn't have the mood to post anything. Now that WCA is over and my internship stint is almost done, I might be blogging again.

The WCA trip was a nice experience. So many pictures to show you guys. But that will have to wait as I haven't sort through all the photos yet.

In the meantime, I'll post pictures of our new jersey!!

什么毛毛东西

I'm currently doing my internship. The company i work in treats their employees very well, so well that each of us get RM75 every month as food allowance at the canteen! I'm so glad we're given such nice treatment.

The food at the canteen has so many choices, we have the same 10 to 20 dishes every single day of the week! Yupe you read that right, 10 to 20 choices!! The cashiers are also very nice to us, sometimes when his/her mood is good, we'll get cheaper prices. The only downside is that we have to put up with the bad moods as well. This results in us being charged with difference prices everytime. Not a bad thing considering we still get to enjoy the 'good moods'. I really shouldn't be complaining.

That is not all. The best part is, 2 of my colleagues were given extra ingredients for their rice yesterday! Wow, I guess the canteen staffs were really in a 'good mood'. Just look at the pictures below, such delicious and mouth watering ingredients, they really work up your appetite don't they.

Coconut Jelly

Went for a game of badminton the other day. After that we went to Dato Keramat for some yummy coconut jelly. The place is situated along the busy Dato Keramat road, near the new Penang Times Square, it was not easy finding a nice parking space.


It looks like a regular coconut from the outside, with the husk removed leaving the inner shell. Inside, the meat is still intact, but the coconut water has been replaced with coconut flavoured jelly. The chilled coconut jelly tastes extremely nice, especially since we were so thirsty after playing badminton.

Everything was perfect, except the spoons they provide. Scraping coconut meat through the small opening on top of the shell was difficult with the flimsy plastic spoon, which can be easily broken if not careful.


On a different matter, saw this in QB later that night.... totties!! The driver must have a hard time keeping the car free of dust.

Raining is bad for paintball...

...your pellets get all soft and sticky, your shots are not consistent, your mask fogs up, the field gets muddy and slippery, and lorries get stuck...


Yup, rain brings trouble when you're paintballing. Last week the field was muddy all over due to several days of rain. In the morning around 10, the lorry that delivers the gas canisters got stuck in the mud. From the morning until the evening, they tried all sorts of ways to get it unstuck - sticking wooden planks under the tire, unloading the canisters to lighten the lorry, pulling the lorry with a 4x4, and then with a bigger lorry - all in vain.

The ground was so soft, the lorry left a 'longkang' of
muddy water wherever it passes...

Finally they had to call in a tractor to pull it out from the mud. Apparently the situation was a serious one for them, cause even their 'boss' (the one with the tie) came along with the tractor to have a look.

"I'm wearing a tie, I have to walk yeng-ly..."

Those lorry drivers are really not environmental friendly. During the long wait for the tractor, they left the engine running for a few hours!! OMG, petrol price now really cheap meh? Tsk tsk tsk...

All the mud, laundry time is going to be tiring...

It's a lorong somewhere along Jalan Magazine, opposite Traders Hotel. Went there with mom yesterday, didn't know that there's such a place in the city. The food there are really cheap. We had a bowl of curry mee (comes with a generous amount of ingredients) for RM2.30 only!

It was a different experience eating there. It was a bit hot, and there were not much tables for customers, and they let you eat on their stalls! We had to watch out for cars coming into the lorong. The lorong was so narrow, the car's side mirror passed by only inches from us. With the bikes parked along the lorong (as in the pic above), the place was even narrower and we had to pause our meal and give way to passing cars. Luckily there weren't a lot of cars passing by.

Georgetown is such an interesting place. If people would take some time to explore the city, they would realized why it was given the Unesco World Heritage Site status. The one thing that might spoil the experience is the heavy modern day traffic - so noisy and polluting. Maybe the government should impose a traffic curfew? Hmm...
